Zhaparov voices Kyrgyzstan's position on situation in Afghanistan at CSTO summit

Bishkek, Sept. 16, 2021 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov expressed the position of the Kyrgyz Republic on the situation in Afghanistan during a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Sept. 16. The president once again stressed that Kyrgyzstan's participation in the CSTO has been and remains a priority in the country's foreign policy, his press service said. "We attach special importance to the cooperation of member states within the CSTO as a guarantor of security in the region. The current unpredictable military-political situation in the region is of great concern and requires close cooperation. For our part, we are ready and urge all member states of the Organization to continue joint work exclusively in the spirit of mutual support," he noted. The Kyrgyz president expressed serious concern about the current situation in Afghanistan, which could negatively affect the security of CSTO member states. At the same time, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized the commitment of the Kyrgyz side to supporting friendly relations with Afghanistan and non-interference in its internal affairs. He also noted the need to conduct a dialogue with representatives of the new government of Afghanistan on possible options for cooperation on various issues in order to stabilize the situation in the country as soon as possible. The Tajik capital city of Dushanbe is hosting a narrow format meeting of CSTO member states. Thus, Presidents of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov and CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas are taking part in the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
