World Media Summit starts in Moscow

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 5 / Trend E. Tariverdiyeva / The representatives of the leading media outlets from about 100 world countries take part in the World Media Summit, which is being held in Moscow on July 5-7. Chairman of the Organizing Committee, ITAR-TASS Director General Vitaly Ignatenko said while addressing to the participants. Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergei Naryshkin also delivered speech at the World Media Summit. The World Media Summit will be held under the motto "Global Media: Challenges of the XXI Century". It is being organized by ITAR-TASS. Trend news agency Director General Ilgar Huseynov, AzerTag Director General Aslan Aslanov and Azerbaijani news newspaper editor in chief Gulnara Huseynova will attend the summit. The summit participants, including the heads of leading news agencies, TV and radio channels, newspapers and magazines, media corporations, will continue discussing the topics raised at the World Media Summit in Beijing, conducted in 2009, and the World Congress of News Agencies, held in Moscow in 2004. The participants will discuss the most urgent problems faced by the media worldwide. The agenda includes the development of electronic media, importance and place of the social network in the modern media, media and business relations and the issues of journalistic ethics. The representatives of the professional community will discuss the role of media in the ongoing political changes in the world, a model of media survival during the economic crisis, the main trends in the transformation of traditional media. "We want to discuss a wide range of issues in our profession imposing a great responsibility upon each of us," ITAR-TASS Director General Vitaly Ignatenko told summit participants. "These are big and small themes: the future of the world's information and its place in the dynamic world, the relations between traditional and new media, the safety of journalists, promoting the ideas of social and professional liability in media, financial and other aspects of our activity." He expressed confidence that the summit is necessary to find answers to media outlets' global challenges posed by the global world with its increased mobility, economic shocks, sometimes irreconcilable regional conflicts.
