White House shooting suspect indicted on attempted assassination

A man who fired shots at the White House in November has been indicted on charges including attempting to assassinate the president, according to US court documents released Tuesday. A federal grand jury in Washington indicted Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez on 17 charges after he allegedly fired a rifle at the White House, damaging the building, dpa reported. Obama and his family were travelling outside of Washington at the time and were in no danger, but Ortega-Hernandez has reportedly expressed hatred for the president. In addition to the assassination charge, Ortega-Hernandez was formally charged with assaulting a federal officer, damaging US property and a variety of weapons violations. He was found in a Pennsylvania hotel in November after the US Secret Service said it discovered a bullet hole in a window at the White House and another round outside the building. His car had been found near the White House with a rifle and empty shell casings inside.
