DUSHANBE (A.A) - 20.05.2010 - 37th Foreign Ministers's Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) ended in Tajikistan's capital city of Dushanbe on Thursday with a closing declaration supporting the agreement between Turkey, Brazil and Iran on a nuclear swap.
In a press conference held after the two-day meeting, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that "OIC members welcomed the nuclear swap agreement. As the OIC, we have extended support to the agreement. We request from relevant international organizations to extend support to this nuclear swap agreement".
Referring to the Middle East, Ihsanoglu said that tension was high in Israel.
"Israel's attacks on Palestinian territory continues. International powers, countries and establishments must act immediately to stop Israel's attacks," Ihsanoglu said.
OIC members must continue to support Afghanistan so that this country reaches peace and stability, Ihsanoglu noted.
On Upper Karabakh, an issue mentioned in the closing declaration of the OIC, Ihsanoglu said that they condemned the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia.
In its closing declaration, the OIC said that terrorism was the biggest threat to humanity.
Terrorism can not be associated with any religion, ethnicity, values or culture, the OIC declaration said.
There is need for more respect and confidence among the cultures and societies of the world, the OIC declaration said.
The declaration called on the OIC Secretariat General to continue efforts to fight against Islamophobia, a systematic trend of discrimination against Muslims in the world.
The OIC declaration praised Ihsanoglu's efforts to make the OIC a global power.
The 38th Foreign Ministers's Meeting of the OIC will take place in Kazakhstan's capital of Astana in 2011.
