Visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to Japan

Tokyo, 20 June 2008, Khabar - The President of Kazakhstan has begun his official visit to Japan with Nursultan Nazarbayev being received by Emperor Akihito.

During the negotiations, the sides exchanged opinions on the world'
s most topical issues and ways of boosting economic cooperation, the
presidential press service has reported.

Nursultan Nazarbayev also said that
Kazakhstan was impressed with Japan's success in terms of its social and
economic development.

The Republic, meanwhile, has started implementation of
its own innovation and industrial programme which is why the Republic's
partnership with Japan is of particular importance.

The President of
Kazakhstan also informed the host side that taking into consideration the
Japanese Emperor's personal contribution to the strengthening of friendship
and mutual understanding between the two nations, the head of state had
signed a corresponding decision to award His Imperial Majesty with
Kazakhstan's supreme state order "Altyn Kyran".

The Emperor, in turn, stated
that he awarded Nursultan Nazarbayev with the supreme state award of Japan
"Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum" for his contribution to nuclear
non-proliferation, global initiatives on strengthening of international
peace and security, tolerance and inter-ethnic harmony.

Nursultan Nazerbayev invited the Japanese monarch to visit the Republic. Whilst in
Tokyo, the Kazakh head of state, also had a meeting speakers of the Japanese
parliament. During his negotiations with the speaker of Japan's lower
chamber - the House of Representatives - Yohei Kono, the President noted
that Kazakhstan is considering expansion of political contacts including
those at lawmaking level, to be of particular significance for the country
and there are also all chances for the sides to lead their bilateral
parliament relations to a new quality level.

Yohei Kono gave his high
evaluation of Kazakhstan's actions in terms of nuclear non-proliferation
whilst the President, in turn, expressed the Republic's readiness to work
alongside Japan in that direction. Issues of parliamentary development and
the exchange of lawmaking experience topped the agenda at talks with the speaker of Japan's upper chamber - the House of Councillors - Satsuki Eda.

The business circles of Japan are interested in cooperation with Kazakhstan
and at a meeting with the Japanese Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry,
Nursultan Nazarbayev also talked to the chairmen and presidents of Japan's
world-leading companies such as the Sumimoto Corporation, the Marubeni
Corporation, Toshiba, Kansai Electric Power, Tokyo Electric Power, Mitsui,
ITOCHU, Mitsubishi and INPEX. During the meeting, President Nursultan
Nazarbayev also noted that the volume of Kazakhstan-Japanese economic
partnership remains relatively low and does not meet the economic potential
of the two countries.

The President underlined that the Republic is
interested in the appearance of new production in Kazakhstan and the country
will certainly support such projects. (Khabar Agency)
