U.S. State Department: Iran's nuclear achievements not to change international community's view

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 15 / Trend S. Isayev/ Iran's International achievements will not change the view of the international community, U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at a daily briefing in Washington, U.S. State Department website reported. Couple of days ago, during the rally on Tehran's Azadi Square, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that country will soon announce new important in the nuclear sphere. Deputy Chief of Iran's National Security Council Ali Bagheri yesterday said Iran will insert its first domestically-produced nuclear fuel rods into a research reactor in Tehran on Wednesday. Bagheri added that since Western states were unwilling to help Iran in this issue, the country itself started enriching uranium to 20 percent to make nuclear fuel rods. "Whatever Iran is planning, it is still required to uphold its international nuclear obligations, including the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions to suspend its proliferation of sensitive nuclear activities and to come clean with the international community about its nuclear program," Nuland said at the briefing. Iran says its nuclear program is confined to production of peaceful atomic energy which it says is a fundamental right of any country. Western nations and Israel have charged that Tehran is secretly working to build nuclear weapons - an assertion Iran vehemently denies. Tensions in the region over Iran's nuclear activities have been on the rise in recent months as speculation has mounted that Israel may be preparing for a strike on Iranian facilities that the Jewish state says constitute a threat to its national security.
