UN to provide assistance to Kyrgyzstan in economy, electoral processes and fight against corruption

Bishkek, Oct. 28, 2020 / Kabar /. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Nuran Niyazaliev met with UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Natalia Gherman, who was in Bishkek on a working visit since Oct. 15, 2020. During the meeting, Niyazaliev congratulated the UN Secretariat, the UN Country Team in Kyrgyzstan and the Regional Center on the 75th anniversary of the UN. He noted the key role of the UN in addressing global problems in the field of security, peace and development, informing about the contribution of the Kyrgyz Republic to its activities, including work in elected bodies of the UN, initiation of resolutions of the UN General Assembly and participation in UN peacekeeping operations. He emphasized that the Kyrgyz Republic remains committed to all the international obligations assumed under the UN universal treaties. Gherman said that her visit to Kyrgyzstan took place on behalf of the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and also shared information on the meetings held with the leadership of the country, the parliament, the government, as well as leaders of parliamentary factions, civil society, business circles, etc. Special Representative of the UN Secretary General expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided in the successful holding of the meetings and visit. As a result of the conversation, an agreement was reached on the development of a roadmap to provide assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic by the UN agencies for the near future, which will reflect projects and programs in the field of economy, social protection, agriculture, industry, food security, health care, education, ecology, anti-corruption and organized crime, electoral processes, human rights, youth and women, etc.
