UN ECOSOC grants Geneva Centre 'Special Consultative Status'

GENEVA, 7th January, 2018 (WAM) -- Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue has achieved significant success in hosting diverse activities in 2017, according to its annual report and activities released in Geneva yesterday. According to a statement, these 2017 achievements culminated with the granting of 'Special Consultative Status' to the Centre by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, UN ECOSOC. The Centre has succeeded in consolidating and expanding cooperation with a number of permanent missions of States, such as African Union, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of OIC and Sovereign Order of Malta. The Geneva Centre has also built alliances and conducted various joint dialogue sessions to address issues related to the promotion of human rights in 2017, cooperating with international organisations including IBE-UNESCO, International Catholic Migration Commission, UNESCO - Geneva liaison office and Union des Nations pour l'Enseignement, la Science Universelle et les Droits de l'Homme. In a press statement, Dr. Hanif Hassan Al Qasim, Chairman of the Centre, explained that the Geneva Centre's 2017 report details the organisation's activities and programmes. He went on to say that receiving the UN ECOSOC special consultative status is an achievement added to the centre's many accomplishments since its establishment in 2013 as a non-government, not-for-profit organisation that seeks to promote dialogue and a culture of tolerance and expand on human rights research and training.
