TURKISH TRANSPORTATION MINISTER MEETS INDONESIAN COUNTERPART

ANKARA (A.A) - 28.06.2010 - Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim on Monday met with his Indonesian counterpart Freddy Numberi in the Turkish capital, Ankara. The two ministers also signed a protocol on civil aviation.
Speaking to reporters during the meeting, Yildirim said Numberi's visit to Turkey would present an opportunity to improve friendly relations between the two countries, however added that the current trade volume did not reflect the true potential of Turkey and Indonesia.
Yildirim said the trade volume between the two countries had reached 1.7 billion USD last year, with a 64 percent increase.
"Yet the trade volume is far away from being satisfactory when we consider the two country's potentials in population, economy, natural resources and cultural riches," Yildirim said.
Yildirim expressed hope that a prospective meeting between Turkish and Indonesian presidents would add a fresh momentum to the relations.
The Indonesian minister said on his part that he was pleased to sign the protocol on civil aviation, adding that the protocol would boost cooperation in this area.
Numberi said his country aimed at developing a strategic cooperation with Turkey in civil aviation training programs.
