TURKISH PRESIDENT OPENS OIC MEETING IN ISTANBUL

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 09.11.2009 - Turkish President Abdullah Gul chaired on Monday the opening session of a summit of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul.
Delivering a keynote speech at the opening of the summit, Gul said the COMCEC had been a successful platform for all Muslim countries for cooperation.
"The COMCEC has been working successfully for 25 years and I believe that it will continue to be an important platform for cooperation between Muslim countries," Gul said.
Gul expressed hope that the 25th anniversary of the COMCEC would mark a new and a more active era for the committee in the face of diverse global problems such as food and financial crises, and climate change. 
"We need to develop the COMCEC cooperation with an eye to radiate the best examples of the Islamic civilization and its peaceful message," Gul said.
