Turkish premier wishes democratic parliamentary system will institutionalize in Egypt soon

ANKARA (A.A) - November 23, 2011 - Turkey's prime minister expressed hope on Wednesday that democratic parliamentary system will be settled down in Egypt as soon as possible. Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey was closely monitoring recent developments in friendly and sister country Egypt, and Egypt's Tahrir Square was a scene of demonstrations again after the cabinet led by Premier Essam Abdel Aziz Sharaf presented its resignation. "We want democratic parliamentary system to be settled down and institutionalized in Egypt without any delay, as much as our Egyptian brothers and sisters do," Erdogan told members of his Justice & Development (AK) Party in a party gathering in Ankara. Erdogan expressed sorrow over loss of life and injuries during demonstrations, and wished that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces in Egypt would meet human rights expectations as soon as possible. Premier Erdogan defined the Council's decision to hold parliamentary elections rapidly and within the framework of a certain schedule as significant. "Egypt has the power and experiences to hold not only parliamentary but also presidential elections as soon as possible," he said. Erdogan said Tunisia solved its democratic parliamentary system problem and elected its premier, and said Turkey did not want to hear anything negative from Egypt. "I hope Egypt would reach peace and order without no more bloodshed and loss of lives at the Tahrir Square, and Egypt will start to shape up its future in compromise," Erdogan also said. Egypt's capital and several other cities have been convulsed by five days of protests demanding that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which took control when Mubarak was ousted in February, hand over power to civilians.
