Turkish Premier Erdogan calls on Mubarak to allow democracy in Egypt

BISHKEK (A.A) - 02.02.2011 - Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Egyptian protestors were not satisfied with Hosni Mubarak's TV address and expected him to allow democracy to flourish in the country.
Appearing at a joint press conference with his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev in Bishkek on Wednesday, Erdogan said Egyptian people did not trust the current administration and it was best to allow an interim administration to carry the country to democracy.
Erdogan said hundreds of thousands of Egyptian protestors filling the Tahrir square were not satisfied with Mubarak's statement and were expecting him to allow democracy in the country.
"Mubarak is now expected to take a totally different step. This is the people's expectation. The current administration is not inspiring confidence for a quick transition to democracy. A road map and a calendar for this should be announced. If such a calendar is announced, masses will be satisfied. I believe that such a transition should be made under an interim administration," said Erdogan.
He said Turkey's intention was not to interfere in Egypt's domestic affairs, urging Egyptian authorities to take his remarks as an outsider's opinion.
Erdogan underlined that over 100 people died so far in the unrest, calling for an end to civilian deaths and expressing his hope for Egypt to achieve a more advanced democracy without further damage.
