Turkish-Malaysian cooperation in auto sector

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 23.02.2011 - Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamed Najib bin Abdul Razak said on Wednesday that Turkey and Malaysia could launch an initiative in the automotive sector to manufacture a Turkish-Malaysian motor vehicle that could also be exported to other countries.
Razak and Turkish State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan attended a round-table meeting co-hosted by Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) and Turkish-Malaysian Business Council in Istanbul.
Delivering a speech in the meeting, Razak said that they made several decisions during his meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stating that the two countries could sign a free trade agreement and a strategic cooperation agreement during Erdogan's visit to Malaysia at the end of 2011.
"We also discussed the automotive industry. Turkey is very powerful in this sector. The two countries can launch initiatives to produce Turkish-Malaysian vehicle that can also be exported to other countries," he said.
"Turkey should not only look at the West, but it should also focus on the East. Malaysia is an important gate opening to leading markets in Asia. It has close relations with China, South Korea and Japan," he said.
Babacan said that Turkey and Malaysia were important powers in their regions and both of them were growing rapidly.
Concrete outcomes had been reached at the meeting between Erdogan and Razak on Tuesday, he said.
