Turkish foreign minister visits Xanthi Turkish Association and Xanthi's elected mufti
XANTHI (A.A) - Turkey's foreign minister visited late on Wednesday Xanthi Turkish Association and Xanthi's elected mufti.
Ahmet Davutoglu arrived in Xanthi late on Wednesday on the sidelines of his visit to the Western Thrace, and addressed kinsmen at the Xanthi Turkish Association set up in 1927.
Davutoglu asked Turks living in Xanthi to preserve their unity and solidarity and be socially, culturally and economically active as Greek citizens, and not to forget that they were also European citizens at the same time.
Minister Davutoglu then visited the elected mufti of Xanthi, Ahmet Mete.
Earlier on Wednesday, Davutoglu visited Komotini and the village of Kozlukebir (Arriana), met elected mufti of Komotini Ibrahim Serif and attended a reception hosted by Western Thrace Turkish Minority Consultation Board.
Davutoglu also had a meeting with Aris Yannakidis, governor of East Macedonia-Thrace Region.
On Tuesday, Davutoglu visited the Greek capital of Athens and met Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and his Greek counterpart Dimitrios Droutsas.
Another Greek official Davutoglu met in Athens was Dimitris Avramopoulos, the deputy chairman of the main opposition New Democracy Party.
Davutoglu also came together with Greek lawmakers of Turkish origin and he made a speech at the "Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy", a Greek think-tank organization, in Athens.
