Turkey's EU minister says Turkey cannot remain indifferent violence against Syrians

ISTANBUL (A.A) - August 15, 2011 - Turkey's European Union Minister Egemen Bagis has said the country could not turn a blind eye on the Syrian government's use of deadly force on its own citizens.
"What is happening in Syria is a humanitarian tragedy. We cannot just sit and watch Syrian government's tanks rolling on its own citizens and pointing their guns on them," Bagis told an Istanbul meeting of the youth branches of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party on Sunday.
"If there is wrongdoing then we are obliged to bring it up and question it. We cannot keep silent over the tragedies in Syria, in Gaza or in Somalia," he said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu last week paid a visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, conveying Turkey's concerns over the Syrian government's handling of the country's pro-democracy demonstrations.
Syrian army withdrew its tanks and heavy weapons from Hama, the scene of a bloody crackdown that killed scores, after Davutoglu's visit.
