Turkey's ambassador in Washington to hold talks in Arizona and California
WASHINGTON (A.A) - 17.02.2011 - Turkey's senior diplomat in the United States has held talks in Arizona and California states, sources said on Wednesday.
Turkey's Ambassador to the United States Namik Tan met Turkish citizens in two separate meetings organized in Phoenix, Arizona-- the first stop of his trip-- by the Turkish American Association and Foundation for Intercultural Dialogue.
During the meetings, Tan said Turkish American community was contributing more to economic life in the United States each passing day, however there were still some steps needed to have a more to say in American social and political life.
Tan also visited "Turkish Philanthropy Funds", established by Turkish businessman Haldun Tasman and "Adaptive Curriculum", a company operating on online education and offering service to more than 100,000 students and teachers.
The ambassador also came together with Dr. Gary Grossman, the chair of Global Technology and Development program at the Arizona State University, and lecturers of the university. Tan discussed cooperation opportunities between this university and Turkish universities.
Tan's last stop in Phoenix was the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations, where he delivered a speech on Turkish-U.S. relations in the changing world.
Los Angeles was the second leg of Tan's trip where he lectured some experts and young journalists on public diplomacy: Turkish experience at the University of Southern California Center on Public Diplomacy.
Tan also met Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa.
