TURKEY TO EXPORT BORON TO D-8 COUNTRIES

ISTANBUL/ANKARA (A.A) - 26.08.2009 - D-8, or developing eight, are willing to work together with Turkey on renewable energy and also to import boron, Turkish energy minister said on Wednesday.
Energy Minister Taner Yildiz had a meeting with Dipo Alam, Secretary-General of D-8, a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations.
Yildiz said the meeting focused on energy. He said D-8 countries demanded boron from Turkey, one of world's largest boron producers, adding that Turkey could also export some other mines to these countries.
Yildiz said some D-8 countries, such as Malaysia and Indonesia, wanted Turkey to invest in renewable energy projects. Yildiz said Turkish government would encourage Turkish companies to invest in these countries.
D-8 consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The group was established after an announcement in Istanbul, Turkey on June 15, 1997.
Turkey's trade volume with D-8 countries rose 27 percent in 2008 to 18 billion USD, 4.3 billion exports and 13.6 billion imports.
