Turkey continues to heal wounds in Libya
TRIPOLI (A.A) - December 15, 2011 - Turkish construction company Summa began restoring the historic Tajura Central School in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
Turkey continues to fulfill promises made to heal the wounds in Libya in the post-Gadhafi era.
Summa Construction Company, active in the Libyan market for long years, began restoring the Tajura Central School which was originally erected by the Italians in 1930 and which was not used for the past three decades.
Once restored by Summa, the Tajura Central School will become a modern center for education.
A reception held to celebrate the restoration of the Tajura Central School was attended by Libya's new Ambassador in Ankara Abdulrezzak Mukhtar Abdulkadir, National Transitional Council's Tajura Representative Muhammad Al Situri and Summa Chairman of the Executive Board Selim Bora.
Speaking at the reception, Selim Bora said that they have been active in Libya for long years.
We restored a five-star hotel in Tripoli in the past, Bora said.
To date, we made an investment of 90 million USD in various projects. We had to pause for a while due to the recent unrest in Libya. However, we are beginning to work on our projects again, Bora noted.
Turkish firms in Libya will be involved in sponsoring various projects after a directive issued by our Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. All Turkish companies will be involved in community projects and make donations as well. We have assumed one such project at the Tajura Central School, Bora underlined.
Libyan Ambassador Abdulkadir, in his part, said that Turkish-Libyan relations went back centuries.
We are pleased to see the contribution of Turkish firms in the reconstruction of Libya, Abdulkadir said.
Following the brief speeches, Ambassador Abdulkadir and Bora cut a cake with the flags of Turkey and Libya on it.
