TS.OYUNGEREL RECEIVES BASKETBALL ASSOCIATIONS' AUTHORITIES

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Ts.Oyungerel received Tuesday Ts.Damdin, the vice president of Mongolia's National Olympic Committee (MonNOC). Together with him were received B.Dashdorj, the secretary-general of the Basketball Association of Mongolia (BAM), and S.Tulga, the secretary-general of Mongolia's National Basketball Association (MNBA). The sides discussed how to develop basketball in Mongolia, organize upcoming tournaments of the National Premier League and Super League, to select top players, form the national selected team, and touched upon activities and works of the basketball associations. Ms Oyungerel noted that the Ministry plans a draft law on NGOs for sports, and then received proposals from the gathered. The parties agreed to cooperate in specific matters, for example, the BAM and MNBA have been allowed to run their competitions separately, and the Minister promised to attend opening ceremonies and decided to carry out Champions League for Basketball among top teams selected from league tournaments. The Minister said the present law has a legal basis to allow the two associations carry out their own activities. As the parties decided, a clause will be added in the bill on NGOs for sports on creating a legal environment for managing one kind of sport with one or more associations. In addition, it was agreed to tackle matters on forming the national selected team and on organizing tournaments by a working group to consist of representatives of the MonNOC and the basketball associations.
