Thai PM inspects water management plans in flood-prone areas
BANGKOK, June 11 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to visit flood-prone provinces, from downstream to upstream areas, from June 11-14 to inspect their water management plans to prevent and contain flooding.
Yingluck was set to leave Bangkok's Government House Monday afternoon to first visit the Chulalongkorn sluice gate in nearby Pathum Thani province.
The prime minister told journalists that she would gather information during her trip this week to improve water management and flood prevention with concerned authorities.
Prior to her departure from the government seat, the prime minister chaired a meeting of the national water and flood policy committee, acknowledging that she wants members of the committee to accompany her in the trip, and that she has sent 31 Cabinet members to 31 provinces to ensure effective state spending on flood-related projects and compensation.
