Thai PM insists on not talking about unsettled marine border with Cambodia
BANGKOK, July 11 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has insisted that she will not raise any issue related to an unsettled marine border area and the 2001 Thai-Cambodian memorandum of understanding (MOU) with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen when she visits the neighbouring country on July 13, but she will brief US business operators of Thailand's political situation and readiness for flood prevention.
Yingluck told journalists on Tuesday that her meeting with the US business operators will emphasize on Thailand’s roles as a center of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and on the regional strength and cooperation paving the way for the formation of the AEC over the next three years in order to boost confidence among the US investors, and that she was invited by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to attend a seminar in Cambodia; so, she will take the opportunity to meet her Cambodian counterpart to boost bilateral relations and cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia.
Yingluck's remarks were in response to the opposition camp's accusation that she would possibly visit Cambodia to discuss interest in the unsettled marine border area.
Asked if her government would use good relations with Phnom Penh to solve problems concerning the Preah Vihear Temple, Yingluck acknowledged that negotiations would be in accordance with laws and diplomatic relations and her government would try the best to protect national interest and sovereignty.
