BANGKOK, December 19 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says she will attend the 4th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw, which will be held on December 19-20 and will take the opportunity to meet with Myanmar’s democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi. Speaking to reporters at Government House on Monday, Yingluck said the summit will discuss the strategic plan on the development of GMS countries for the next 10 years, focusing on infrastructure investments and trade cooperation. Yingluck said Thailand will take the opportunity to discuss issues including its readiness to invest in east-west economic corridors, the development of the Dawei deep-sea port, and regional cooperation on education, public health and technology. At the meeting, the leaders will also endorse the Joint Declaration of the 4th GMS Summit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on HIV, an MoU on joint cooperation to further accelerate construction of an information superhighway and its GMS applications, and another on establishing a GMS Freight Transporters Association (FRETA), the prime minister said. The GMS summit, which is sponsored by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will be attended by leaders from six GMS countries, namely Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. (TNA)
