Thai, Cambodia troop withdrawal to be discussed at GBC meeting

BANGKOK, December 20 (TNA) - Thailand and Cambodia will discuss military withdrawal from the disputed area near the 11th century Preah Vihear temple in their General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Cambodia’s capital of Phnom Penh on Wednesday. Thai Army commander General Prayuth Chan-ocha confirmed on Tuesday that the GBC meeting will discuss 17 issues including troop redeployment from the provisional demilitarized zone near the temple as ordered by the International Court of Justice on July 18. He said Thai authorities do their best for the greatest benefit of the country. According to the army chief, the Thai defence minister would lead Thai delegations to the GBC meeting and he himself will also attend the meeting in his capacity as the committee member. Gen Prayuth said that conclusions from the GBC meeting would be presented to the Thai cabinet and parliament for approval in accordance with Article 190 of the 2007 Constitution. (TNA)
