Thai anti-flood agencies to meet Tuesday evening
BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) - Flooding prevention government agencies are scheduled to meet Tuesday evening to discuss measures and progress on anti-flood programmes as rainy season has arrived, said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
Admitting that some measures to prevent flooding problem on upstream and downstream are still delayed, Yingluck said problems especially procurement do exist.
Dredging of canals to allow water to flow smoothly as well as reducing water stored at dams have made considerable progress, she said, adding that she is confident the government would be able to solve the problem during the current rainy season.
Touching on local political situation, Yingluck said her Monday’s meeting and luncheon with military leaders was just normal.
Relations between the military and the government are still good and both sides would cooperate in solving any problem which affects the country.
On a request by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to use U-Tapao airport as a base for conducting atmospheric studies, Yingluck said she did not raise the issue for discussion during Monday’s meeting with military top brass.
She said both the Thai military and the Washington government still enjoy positive relations and she is considering on personally attending the United Nations General Assembly annual session in New York which is scheduled to be held this September. (TNA)
