TECHNICAL REGULATION CREATED FOR LEATHER PRODUCTIONS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The cabinet on Saturday issued and then approved a resolution on a technical regulation regarding a supply and export of all sorts of processed leather. The resolution's main objectives are to widen kinds of the value-added products, to ensure people's health and environmental safety, and to prevent an export of products that are not processed by the standard. As seen from the international experience, all developed countries, especially European Union (EU) countries, have standards and technical regulations in order to protect their national productions and to ensure citizens' health. The export of raw and processed leather increased in 2011 by 17 percent against 2007, the import rose by 81.4 percent in the last five years. At a national level, there are some 30 processing factories and other 80 factories that produce final products. Annually, 10.3 million of pieces of big and small livestock are prepared, their 74.2 percent are exported to China in a raw/finally processed forms. A 40 percent of the rest, sold to national producers, is processed in the European standards and are exported to some ten countries such as Italy, Spain, Turkey and South Korea. B.Khuder
