Suu Kyi asks int'l community to help develop Myanmar reconciliation
BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - In her first address to a global forum in 24 years, Myanmar's pro-democracy icon and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi told the 21st World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in Bangkok on Friday that she strongly intends to develop peace and national reconciliation in Myanmar and sought the international community's support to achieve the ambitious goal.
Suu Kyi, the leader of Myanmar's main opposition National League for Democracy Party (NLD), said that the success of Myanmar would happen with Myanmar people having better life, jobs and incomes and importantly most of them have to finish high school.
Suu Kyi stressed that unemployment among Myanmar youths is a time bomb which needs to be defused right away, and that Myanmar welcomes foreign investment but it is to give fair benefits to Myanmar people and not to trigger corruption and wider gaps.
Suu Kyi asked the international community to help Myanmar build its strong foundations, acknowledging although there are good laws in Myanmar, they appear to be useless without a clean judiciary. (TNA)
