Russian presidential election results summarised in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 5 / Trend E. Tariverdiyeva / About 2212 voters or 34.5 per cent of 6358 Russian citizens, registered at the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan took part in the presidential elections, the website of the embassy said. 'The elections were organised', the statement said. 'There were no complaints. Representatives of the Azerbaijani media and observers from the Baku branch of the International Institute for monitoring the development of democratisation, parliamentary and the observation of the rights of citizens of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), as well as the Communist Party attended the polling station opened at the consular section of the Embassy." The following results were registered; Vladimir Zhirinovsky - 54 votes (2.44 per cent), Zuganov - 244 (11.03 per cent), Mironov - 52 (2.35 per cent), Prokhorov - 205 (9.27 per cent) and Putin - 1,634 (73.87 per cent). The Embassy expressed its gratitude to the Azerbaijani authorities for its assistance in organising the voting, the website says. There were five candidates for the presidency. Four of them were nominated by the parliamentary parties: Vladimir Zhirinovsky is nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party, Gennady Zyuganov by the Communist Party, Sergei Mironov - Fair Russia, Vladimir Putin the United Russia and independent candidate Michael Prokhorov. The Russian missions abroad organised the voting of citizens belonging to the Russian Federation, in those countries in accordance with the law "On elections of President of the Russian Federation". Accordingly, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Azerbaijan provided the polling stations in the building of the consular department of the Embassy and in the residential town of the information and analytical centre Daryal in Gabala for those Russian citizens living in Azerbaijan.
