Romania fully supports Turkey's EU bid, president says

ANKARA (A.A) - 12.12.2011 - Romanian President Traian Basescu said Monday that they fully supported Turkey's EU bid. Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Basescu held a press conference after their meeting in Turkish capital of Ankara. Recalling that Turkey and Romania signed strategic partnership document aiming at boosting bilateral relations, Basescu said the document also foresaw cooperation in foreign policy, security and combating terrorism. Trade volume between the two countries reached 5 billion U.S. dollars in the first nine months of 2011, he said. Basescu said that during his meeting with Gul, they discussed regional matters including developments in the Middle East. Romania fully and resolutely supported Turkey's EU membership, he said. Basescu said Turkey could make great contributions to Europe with its dynamism, importance and young population. Romanian president added that he would like to thank Turkish businessmen for their contribution to Romanian economy.
