Renaud-Basso: EBRD ready to actively support green economy projects in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2021 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met in Glasgow with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso, the press service of the head of state reported. An open conversation took place on productive cooperation between the EBRD and Kyrgyzstan on promising projects of mutual interest. The head of state stressed that interaction with the EBRD is a priority of the foreign economic policy of Kyrgyzstan. He noted that Kyrgyzstan supports the Paris Agreement, a climate investment program and a climate finance center are working. The center was established with EBRD support as part of a pilot climate change mitigation program. The president of Kyrgyzstan expressed his readiness to support the expansion of cooperation with the EBRD in the areas of water resources, small energy, modernization of energy infrastructure, public transport, as well as the closure and reclamation of a landfill in Bishkek in order to reduce emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. Sadyr Zhaparov noted that the implementation of a national project for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants with the support of private entrepreneurs has begun in Kyrgyzstan. The head of state said that the construction of a number of small hydropower plants would be completed in the near future and called on the EBRD to cooperate in this direction. Odile Renaud-Basso praised the level of cooperation between the EBRD and Kyrgyzstan and expressed her readiness to actively support projects in the areas of green economy, hydropower and renewable energy with the involvement of the business community.
