President of Turkmenistan to participate in Non-Aligned Movement summit

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug. 30 Trend H.Hasanov/ President of Turkmenistan will head the government delegation, which will visit Tehran (Iran) to attend the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement on Thursday, the country's media reported on Thursday. NAM is an international organisation that brings together 120 countries in the world on the principles of non-participation of military blocs. NAM was officially established by 25 states at the Belgrade Conference in September 1961. The next summit of the organization is held on August 26 - 31 in Tehran. The newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan wrote that the Turkmen leader "will deliver an important constructive initiatives in the context of strengthening regional and global security, that will be another positive contribution of Turkmenistan to the formation of a comprehensive approach to identify the most effective and popular formats of cooperation taking into account national interests and priorities of global development" at the summit. Turkmenistan joined the Movement in October 1995. A government report says the organization fully supported the foreign policy of Turkmenistan, which is based on the principles of permanent neutrality. "It became an important factor in the recognition of the relevant international legal status of Turkmenistan by UN in December 1995. NAM States strongly supports constructive international initiatives of our country," the media said. Turkmen leader on the eve of the government meeting, said that speaking from the position of a constructive dialogue on all international issues, Turkmenistan consistently adheres to the basic principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, aimed at strengthening peace and security in the world, creating the best conditions for sustainable development in the regional and global scale.
