PRESIDENT RECEIVES MR MIGLIORI

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj received Wednesday visiting Mr Riccardo Migliori, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
The President said Mongolia is reforming its legal and security system in favour of people, "and some draft laws are being worked out by sharing experience with the OSCE. This is vital for MPs and a working group who are drawing up the bills,” Mr Elbegdorj said.
Mentioning about some achievements Mongolia gained in the economic growth and reducing the corruption index, the State Head said Mongolia intends to have more by reforming institutions and by authorizing its people to drive the country's rule.
The country will host the 7th Ministerial Conference of the CoD this April, and it is projected that Foreign Ministers of 150 countries, State Heads of some nations, and prominent political figures will participate in the Conference, for example, a chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Myanmar and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ms Aung San Suu Kyi and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Union Ms Catherine Ashton.
“We always highly appreciate our ties with the EU. After becoming the President, I issued an order to ban the capital punishment, now Mongolia is reforming all its legal documents about the punishment. Mongolia is about to become a capital punishment-free state,” Mr Elbegdorj said.
He said Mongolia is grateful to the OSCE for including Mongolia in Participating-State membership, and added that Mongolia wants to be a leading country in its region by the democracy level.
“Mongolia is one of the few countries who transmitted to the parliamentary governance from the socialist system. We are really proud of our making the bloodless democratic revolution. Since then, Mongolia organized its parliamentary elections several times, and a number of women MPs has been increasing,” Mr Elbegdorj underlined.
In turn, Mr Migliori thanked Mongolia for appreciating the OSCE's importance, and said Mongolia managed to become an exemplary state in its regions. He added that Mongolia gained big achievements not only in the economic sector, but also in human rights.
Kyrgyzstan and other Asian countries need a help and good example of democracy. The OSCE considers Central Asia, including Mongolia, as the strategically important region, Mr Migliori said, adding that the OSCE wants to expand the parliamentary cooperation with Mongolia.
The President Elbegdorj emphasized that Mongolia is focusing on widening to the Asian region its nuclear weapon-free status, backed by the Nuclear Weapon States (United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and China).
