Poll: Politicians most corrupted
BANGKOK, January 9 (TNA) - Most people believe that politicians are most corrupted in the Thai society followed by civil servants, police and businessmen, according to Suan Dusit Poll released on Sunday.
The poll conducted among 1,884 people nationwide between January 3-7 showed that corruption has existed in the Thai society for a long time and negatively affected the image of the country.
Nearly half of the total respondents agreed that politicians are most corrupted people in the country followed by government civil servants, police and businessmen.
Over 30 per cent of them said corruption problem could be solved through sowing honesty during childhood, launching continuous campaigns, enforcing law and measures to punish the wrongdoers seriously. Concerned government agencies must take responsibility in scrutinising and take close monitoring on the staff operations.
On the coalition government attempts to amend the 2007 constitution, Prompong Nopparit, spokesman of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, said political parties joining the government will hold a meeting Monday and discuss ways to amend it so that it could be more democratic.
Prompong said he believed final solution on amending the charter could be seen this week.
His comments were made after the government-appointed National Independent Rule of Law Commission, led by Ukrit Mongkolnavin, has recently appointed 34 members from several professions to draft a new constitution.
Earlier, the Pheu Thai Party has proposed that a constitution-drafting assembly be formed while some key members in the government such as Deputy Prime Minister Pol. Capt. Chalerm Yubumrung said time is not yet right to amend the current constitution and it is better to allow the government to work first before it is amended. (TNA)
