Parliamentary chairman : Ukraine to make every effort to resolve Karabakh conflict

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 19 / Trend M.Aliyev/ Ukraine has aimed to make every effort in order to move the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict from the formal position during its upcoming presidency of the OSCE, chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Vladimir Litvin, who is in Baku on an official visit, said on Thursday. Litvin said Ukraine currently is preparing for its chairmanship of the OSCE in 2014. "Ukraine's position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged. We are in a position of respect to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognised borders and continue to insist that the conflict should be resolved peacefully," Litvin said. The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions. Do you have any feedback?
