More than half of Tunisia's new cabinet members from winning party, Ennahda leader says

TUNIS (A.A) - December 9, 2011 - Intellectual leader of Tunisia's Ennahda Party -- the winner of the country's first democratic elections since the ouster of former president, Zine el Abidine Ben Ali -- has said more than half of the members of Tunisia's new interim cabinet would be assigned by the Ennahda. "At least 15 seats at the 27-member cabinet will be assigned by our party including prime ministry, ministries of interior, foreign affairs, economy and justice," Rashid Al Gannushi told the Anadolu Agency in an interview. The Ennahda Party won a landslide victory, getting 89 seats at the 217-seat assembly in the country's first democratic test after a popular uprising that ousted President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali that triggered the Arab Spring.  The party agreed with the Congress for the Republic and the Ettakatol Party to form a ruling coalition. Gannushi also rejected accusations that his party was "anti-women," saying that the Ennahda had 42 women lawmakers in the parliament.
