Kyrgyzstan, EBRD discuss implementation of infrastructure and irrigation projects

Bishkek, Sept. 29, 2021 . / Kabar / . Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov met with Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Alain Pilloux and EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai, the press service of the Cabinet reported Wednesday.
The chairman of the Cabinet emphasized that the EBRD provides significant support to Kyrgyzstan in all key areas of development and noted that the bank intends to make every effort to activate new projects and increase the volume of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to the discussion of infrastructure and energy projects, development of water supply and irrigation system, support for state enterprises and agro-industrial complex.
Regarding the development of water supply and irrigation system, it was noted that the project on rehabilitation of irrigation system is being finalized and its implementation will ensure sustainable and efficient use of water through modernization of irrigation system, will improve independent water supply to lands.
"The project will rehabilitate the existing and build a new irrigation system in three oblasts. Thanks to the project, 8,700 hectares of new irrigated land will be developed and more than 14,300 jobs are expected to be created for the rural population," Ulukbek Maripov said.In turn, Alain Pilloux said that the financial institution is always ready to support projects aimed at improving the energy potential of the republic, the development of small hydropower plants, agricultural projects, to support small and medium-sized businesses and provide drinking water to the population. Along with this, the EBRD vice president noted the readiness to work on large projects of strategic direction.
