The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said that at the beginning of the event, a video message from the UN Assistant Secretary General for Europe, Central Asia and America Miroslav Jenč to the meeting participants was presented. As part of the event, the sides reviewed the situation in Central Asia, the emergence of new challenges and threats, including as a result of the recent events in Afghanistan, and also discussed the current activities of UNRCCA. During his speech, Kyrgyz Deputy Minister Madmarov informed the participants of the event about the negative impact of coronavirus infection on the Central Asian states, which also caused a decrease in trade and economic ties between the states. Also Madmarov drew the attention of colleagues to new and emerging threats and challenges associated with climate change and voiced the climatic goals that the republic plans to achieve in the future. Regarding the use of the region's water and energy resources, Madmarov stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic is in favor of establishing long-term mutually beneficial cooperation in the water and energy sector through the exchange of energy resources, which will not only strengthen regional integration, but also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is extremely an important factor for the sustainable development of the entire Central Asian region. One of the central topics on the agenda of the event was the deterioration of the military-political situation in Afghanistan. The sides expressed their positions on the early stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and called on the international community to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
