Kyrgyzstan’s FM takes part in 46th session of UN Human Rights Council

Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2021. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev participated in High-Level Segment of the 46th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
During his speech, Kazakbaev informed the international community about the democratic presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan, human rights reforms carried out in the country, as well as the prospects of cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with the UN.
In his address, the Kyrgyz minister highlighted the following priorities of the state policy of Kyrgyzstan: constitutional reform; fight against corruption, criminality and organized crime; reform of judicial and law enforcement systems; humanization of criminal legislation.
In this context, Kazakbaev expressed confidence that such an approach would lay a solid foundation for the establishment of a new Kyrgyz society, where the principles of the rule of law, legality and law enforcement, protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech, would be respected.
He emphasized Kyrgyzstan is committed to further strengthening its credibility as a country that respects and protects human rights, as well as constantly striving to fulfill its international obligations.
Reaffirming the country's commitment to the protection and observance of human rights and freedoms, Kazakbaev reminded the international community of Kyrgyzstan's candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council for 2023-2025.
The UNHRC was established by the UN General Assembly on 15 March 2006. It works closely with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and engages the UN's special procedures.
The Council is made up of 47 United Nations Member States which are elected by the UN General Assembly.
