Japan Touts Disaster Mitigation Support to Developing Countries

Lima, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)--Japan is touting its role in helping developing countries reduce damage from natural disasters caused by global warming, as negotiators from across the world are getting together in Lima for climate change talks. At an event held at the Japan Pavilion Wednesday, Japanese officials explained Tokyo's plans to provide support for infrastructure development in Peru to reduce flood risks. In addition, Japan has come up with a report that details support measures that the country has been implementing overseas for disaster prevention, for distribution to negotiators from developing countries. The campaign comes as the northeastern Japan city of Sendai is scheduled to host a meeting of the U.N. World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015. Such an effort is expected to make Japanese support measures well known to negotiators from across the globe and have a favorable impact on negotiations, a senior Japanese delegate said. END
