Iraqi government affirms "the Syrian people’s right to select its democratic regime" and objection to imposing sanctions on Syria

Baghdad (NINA) - The Iraqi government asserted "the Syrian people’s right to select its democratic regime and gain full freedoms," but stressed its objection to the imposition of economic sanctions on Syria. Spokesman of the Iraqi government, Ali Al Dabbagh, said in a statement, that the Cabinet discussed during its meeting today "the repercussions of the situation in Syria and the decisions of the Ministerial Council of the Arab League in this regard." He added "the Cabinet confirms that the activation of the Arab initiative to address the crisis in Syria provide proper handling of the situation, and that the mechanisms used and approved by the AL does not achieve the desired purpose. The Iraqi government opposes the globalization of the crisis in Syria and the imposition of economic sanctions on it." Dabbagh explained "the Iraqi government expresses its deep concern over the consequences of the situation in Syria on the security situation and the interests of Iraq and the region.” /End/
