GUAM Secretary General addresses OSCE Permanent Council

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 17 / Trend V. Zhavoronkova/ Ambassador Valeri Chechelashvili, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM), spoke at the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, the organization reported on Thursday. "The main goal of GUAM is to establish a sphere of stability and integration in the Black Sea -Caspian Sea region; a sphere of partnership, based on European standards, criteria and practice," he said. He added that the organization believes this stage of its development is particularly important. "We are engaged in the active process of generating and implementing GUAM projects and programs of cooperation," Chechelashvili said. The main project areas of GUAM - which membership consists of OSCE participating states Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova - include a free trade zone, combating organized crime, joint tourism initiatives, transport and energy, Chechelashvili said.
