Georgian minister: relations will develop after passages start with ID card in Turkish-Georgian border
IZMIR (A.A) - December 15, 2011 - Georgian State Minister for Diaspora Issues Mirza Davitaia said that tourism, economic and commercial relations would develop after passages began by using only identity cards in Turkish-Georgian border.
This implementation lifted bureaucratic obstacles between the two countries, added Davitaia who visited western province Izmir's Governor Cahit Kirac on Thursday.
Davitaia said that no passports were needed to pass the border between Turkey and Georgia from now on, and expressed belief that more Turkish citizens would visit Georgia.
Governor Kirac said that many Georgian citizens were living in Turkey, adding that Georgia's tourism potential was increasing, and Turkey and Georgia should improve their cooperation in tourism area.
Under an additional protocol signed between the two countries on May 31, 2011, Turkish and Georgian citizens do not need to use passports any more while passing the border. The implementation began on December 10.
