FMs of Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait discuss topical issues of cooperation

Bishkek, June 21, 2021. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Nasir Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the ministers of the two states discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kuwait. In particular, the implementation of projects with the financial support of Kuwait in the development of medicine, infrastructure, energy and tourism in Kyrgyzstan.
Kazakbaev briefly spoke about the internal political transformations in Kyrgyzstan and the aspirations of the country's leadership to an early exit from the economic crisis, as well as the promotion of a peaceful foreign policy in the region based on good-neighborliness and historical bonds of friendship.
In this context, he called on Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to invest in promising areas of the national economy of Kyrgyzstan. In particular, taking into account the ongoing pandemic, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed interest in attracting Kuwaiti investments in the development of the medical sector. He also offered to provide intellectual and financial support for the implementation of projects promoted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of digitalization, the development of national IT technologies, ensuring cybersecurity, the introduction of a green economy and environmental protection.
In turn, Foreign Minister of Kuwait Al-Sabah confirmed his interest in developing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in all areas of mutual interest. He assured that Kuwaiti investors consider Central Asia and Kyrgyzstan, in particular, as a promising region. In this regard, Minister Al-Sabah proposed to expand the Kyrgyz-Kuwaiti legal framework by signing the relevant agreements and treaties, as well as to promote the implementation of the already signed intergovernmental agreements in the field of investments and avoidance of double taxation.
Kazakbaev appealed to the Kuwaiti side with a request to support the candidacy of Kyrgyzstan to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025, as well as to the Non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the period 2027-2028.
At the end of the meeting, the sides exchanged mutual invitations to pay official visits to Bishkek and Kuwait.
