European Union is strong and stable ally of Kyrgyzstan: Peter Burian

Bishkek, June 3, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan has a strong and stable ally and partner in addressing many issues and challenges, represented in the European Union, EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Ambassador Peter Burian, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan as part of his final visit to the region on occasion of the completion of his mission.
The ambassador noted he had very important and fruitful meetings with the leadership of the country. Peter Burian met with President Sadyr Zhaparov, First Deputy Prime Minister Aibek Dzhunushaliyev, Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev, Head of the Central Elections Commission Nurzhan Shaildabekova, and the civil sector.
During the meetings, the full range of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU of mutual interest, including bilateral, as well as regional political dialogue and development cooperation were discussed.
"We talked very frankly about many of the issues that interest us. In particular, about the implementation of the decree of the new Constitution. It is important that this issue develops taking into account all the obligations, the experience not only of the country, but of the whole world. We are ready to help in this direction. I suggested to include the Venice Commission if necessary. The most important thing is that the country continues to improve and strengthen democracy," Burian said.
In addition, as the EU representative noted, the upcoming parliamentary elections were also discussed.
“You know that the EU has always helped with its programs to improve the electoral system. We also expressed the hope that this time it will be possible to avoid past mistakes and that many ODIHR recommendations will be taken into account. We also ready to provide technical assistance and advice in this issue," Peter Burian added.
