Emirates Association for Human Rights condemns Houthi militias for targeting Riyadh

DUBAI, 6th November, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Association for Human Rights has condemned the Houthi militias' attempt to target King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with a ballistic missile. In a statement published today, the association expressed its concern over the deliberate targeting of crowded and populated areas by the Houthi militias, which reflected their intention to cause damage and kill civilians. The association demanded that Arab and international civil society organisations condemn this crime, as well as hold accountable and prosecute those responsible for planning and committing it. It also called upon the international community to deal firmly with this crime, as it reflected the Houthi militias’ approach of targeting civilians. Referring to the ballistic missile launched by the militia targeting Mecca on 27th October 2016, the association noted that this was not the first time the Houthi militias had targeted civilians, in a bid to inflict a large number of casualties and substantial damage to property. The association said that targeting an international airport during peak hours of passenger movement proved the militia was planning to inflict maximum casualties, in defiance of international humanitarian law and its legal principles and values.
