Deputy speaker: Khojaly tragedy recognised by foreign parliaments is Azerbaijani policy success

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 25 / Trend E. Mehdiyev / The fact that the parliaments of foreign countries have recognised the Khojaly tragedy as being genocide is down to the success of Azerbaijan's foreign policy, first deputy speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov told media today. "The fact that the Colombian Senate reached a decision on the matter is the result of the successful policy conducted by Azerbaijan under the leadership of the Azerbaijani President," he said. "The countries of the American continent have also begun to treat the issue objectively and fairly. This will be continued." He stressed that the Khojaly genocide is one of the most terrible tragedies of mankind. "No matter how the Armenians try, it is impossible to hide this," he added. The Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. Some 613 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1000 civilians were injured during the genocide. Eight families were massacred, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both. Additionally, 1275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
