Daily mocks US style of democracy, deplores torture
Tehran, Dec 15, IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Monday condemned the recent reports released by the US Senate on tortures carried out by the CIA worldwide, which the paper believes is an indication of apparent paradox in the US foreign policy.
Elucidating on the issue, the English-language paper wrote that the heinous torture reports indicate that the so-called advocates of democracy and human rights themselves perpetrate barbaric torture across the globe. Such crimes have been committed to wring confessions from those who have nothing to disclose.
The reports betray the fact that the headman of the West is revengeful and narrow-minded, recalling that even under former president George W. Bush (2001-9), the US customs officials had been ordered to publicly hurl affronts at Iranians. Likewise, after the Second World War, Americans were contemptuous of the Japanese.
These hostile approaches dictated by US officials have adversely affected its own citizens, it pointed out.
The racist behavior toward black Americans is among the social repercussions of double standards adopted by US statesmen who boast of upholding the human rights charter that emerged from the French Revolution, it underscored.
War crimes committed by ordinary American soldiers stem from the fact that malice has eclipsed rationality due to the paradoxical US policies.
Nonetheless, sections of media disclose realities to help prevent barbaric crimes such as torture. This is while torturers cannot be punished because they remain unidentified, it pointed out.
Republicans, particularly under ex-president Bush, have been implicated for using torture across the world. The failure of Democrats in parliamentary polls against Republicans has encouraged them to make a scapegoat out of their arch-rivals.
Even though a large number of Al-Qaeda terrorists and those from its offshoots suffered torture under the Bush administration, such atrocities have also been perpetrated during Barack Obama’s presidency.
The US spying agency CIA brutally tortured Al-Qaeda captives to death and explored ways of sweeping such crimes under the carpet. Undoubtedly, torture and all sorts of crimes are shameful, irrespective of who commits these crimes and under what conditions. However, efforts to disclose and prevent crimes deserve praise, wrote the paper in conclusion.
