Cooperation issues discussed with representative of European Charter

Bishkek, July 2, 2018. / Kabar /. Director of the State Agency for Local Self-Government and Interethnic Relations under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakhtiar Saliev met with consultant of the European Charter Kelmend Zajazi.
According to the press service of the Agency, during the meeting Zajazi informed about the European Charter of Local Self-Government. He said that the European Charter of LSG was adopted in 1985 by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and is the most important multilateral document that defines the fundamental principles of the functioning of local self-government bodies. "The main objective of the Charter is to ensure the rights of local self-government bodies as the closest to citizens and enabling them to participate in decision-making regarding the conditions of their daily lives. The task of the Charter is also to show that the degree of development of local self-government bodies is the main criterion of true democracy and people are provided with conditions for living at a decent level," he said.
In turn, Saliev informed about the current state of local self-government in the Kyrgyz Republic. He stressed that Kyrgyzstan began to develop local self-government as one of the first Central Asian countries.
