COE SG Jagland: people should leave the history to historians

Cancellation: We cancel our news story on remarks of COE's head, and run the following news story STRASBOURG (A.A) - January 23, 2012 - Council of Europe (COE) Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland said that people should leave the history to historians regarding the voting of French bill on Armenian allegations.  Politicians should not discuss the history, added Jagland who met Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc in Strasbourg on Monday before they inaugurated Anadolu Agency's photo exhibition on Somalia. Touching on the rising hatred and xenophobia in Europe, Jagland said, "it is our duty to fight against these." French Senate will vote today a bill which penalizes denial of the Armenian allegations on 1915 incidents with a prison term of one year and a fine of 45,000 euro.  Meanwhile, Arinc said that the bill was wearing out the European values, and limiting the freedom of expression. We feel very sorry about this issue, said Arinc, adding that COE should launch initiatives to prevent wearing out of the European values.
