Canadian Minister Says His country Will Name Its Ambassador To Baghdad Soon

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - Canada announced it would appoint an ambassador to Baghdad soon. A statement by the Foreign Ministry said that "Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with Canadian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Omar al-Ghubra on the sidelines of the conference to support the future of Syria and the region under the auspices of the European Union and the United Nations in the Belgian capital Brussels. The meeting reviewed relations between Baghdad and Ottawa, and the need to exchange visits between officials of both countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples. " Al-Jaafari appreciated the support provided by Canada to Iraq in the war against Daesh terrorist gangs, saying "We thank your support, your participation in the international coalition against Daesh terrorist gangs and supporting Iraq in various fields," adding "The humanitarian will of the whole world has come together to stand by Iraq in its war against Daesh." The minister said: "We seek to activate the agreement on trade and economic exchange signed in 1982, because of their significant impact in opening new horizons for joint cooperation between the two countries. He called on the Canadian side to name its ambassador in Baghdad in the framework of developing relations between the two countries." For his part, the Canadian minister expressed his congratulations on the liberation of Iraqi cities from Daesh terrorist gangs. Added: "We congratulate you on the victories achieved by the Iraqi people in their war against Daesh. Canada is proud to support Iraq in the war against terrorism, and we affirm our continued standing by you in all fields. He said: "The subject of the designation of ambassador to Canada in Baghdad will be soon." / End
