Azerbaijani ex-president: Adoption of law on ex-presidents of Azerbaijan - step towards development of democracy

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 30 /Trend E.Mehdiyev/ Former Azerbaijani President Ayaz Mutallibov appreciates the adoption of the Constitutional Law Providing security for ex-presidents of Azerbaijan and their families. "The adoption of the law, of course, is the result of political will of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. It is an important step in the development of democracy, which will have a positive impact on the domestic political environment. I wish that there will be more such steps, bringing the people together," Mutallibov said in a letter sent to the delegates of SDPA's 12th Congress, where he was a co-chair for many years. "I express my sincere gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, the authors of the law, the MPs who supported it during the debate, politicians and ordinary citizens," Mutallibov's letter said. The letter of Mutallibov on his withdrawal from the party and the cessation of political activity was read by co-chair of SDPA Araz Alizadeh. The former president noted that the Constitutional Act on the ex-presidents of Azerbaijan makes a fair assessment of the former heads of state. "It gives me and my family a sense of moral satisfaction and relief. Status of ex-president does not forbid me to engage in politics. However, for objective reasons, I decided to leave politics.
